A passenger reported an 'agitated' man carrying the weapon - but all was not as it seemed
A train was held up to allow police to board when a passenger reported seeing a man carrying a samurai sword.
According to the concerned traveller, the man carrying the apparent weapon appeared "agitated" and the circumstances were enough to prompt a call to the police. The train was then held up at Poulton-le-Fylde to allow officers from British Transport Police to board. But once they arrived at the scene, it transpired that the supposed weapon was actually an umbrella whose handle was made in the style of the Japanese sword.
A spokesperson said: "A train was held at #PoultonLeFylde Station by train crew after it was reported there was an “agitated” male aboard with a weapon. On attendance officers found that it was an umbrella with a samurai sword handle that was poking out from his bag. Words of advice given."
