A student was shot in the leg last month on an Oakland high school campus and police believe he accidentally wounded himself.

OAKLAND — Police are continuing to investigate a shooting last month at Castlemont High School where a 16-year-old student apparently accidentally wounded himself in the thigh but claimed he was shot by someone else, authorities said.

Police suspect it may have been taken off campus by someone the student knew before officers got to the school and began searching while the campus was on lockdown.Police say they’ve identified suspect in East Bay sexual batterySchool district officials did not respond to a request for information or a statement about the shooting, nor have they said if the student has resumed attending classes.
