Police at the U.S. Capitol arrested a man on Tuesday as he tried to enter the visitor’s center with a flare gun and an apparent fire accelerant.

U.S. Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger said during a briefing that the man entered the Capitol Visitor Center shortly after noon on Election Day and approached the screening area. Officers at the screening area asked the man to place his coat and backpack down for an inspection. They then noticed what appeared to be a firearm, which was later identified as a flare gun, and two bottles of the accelerant in his bag.His vehicle was located several blocks from the Capitol building.
Police are still investigating a motive, Manger said, but the man told investigators he had papers in his backpack that he intended on delivering to Congress.The investigation is still ongoing.America reaches Election Day and a stark choice between Trump and Harris
