Widely-circulated footage shows Orile Iganmu Police Station ablaze amid reports of several fatalities as protests in Nigeria escalate.
The protests, which started about a fortnight ago with calls for an end to police brutality, have seen many young people using the social media hashtag #EndSars to campaign for the closure of the notorious Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Early on in the protests, police fired on protesters in the Surulere area of Lagos and elsewhere. Meanwhile, armed gangs have attacked protesters in Lagos and the capital Abuja.Sanwo-Olu tweeted on Tuesday:"I have watched with shock how what began as a peacefulI, therefore, hereby impose a 24-hour curfew on all parts of the State as from 4pm today, 20th October,2020. Nobody, except essential service providers and first responders must be found on the streets.
