Police are requesting the public’s help as they investigate a hit-and-run crash in Salt Lake City’s Ballpark neighborhood that left two people on a motorcycle s
The incident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, near Cleveland Avenue and Main Street. A Salt Lake City police officer who was already in the area conducting proactive patrols reportedly happened to drive up on the crash almost immediately after it had transpired.
Police stated that the officer found two injured individuals on the ground. Additional officers responded to the scene and initiated life-saving measures. One of the victims, a 53-year-old man, required a tourniquet. Gold Cross Ambulance and Salt Lake City Fire paramedics transported the man and an 18-year-old woman to the hospital, both with serious injuries.
Witnesses reported that the suspect vehicle fled the scene southbound on Main Street, then turned west on Andrew Avenue. Investigators determined that the suspect vehicle, described as a gray or light-colored Ford compact car with significant front-end damage, had been traveling north on Main Street. The driver allegedly stopped near Cleveland Avenue to perform a U-turn and turned into the motorcycle as it was northbound on Main Street. Police stated the driver did not stop after the collision.
Investigators are working to gather further information about the suspect vehicle. Anyone with details about a car matching the description, or anyone who may have recently seen a vehicle with front-end damage, has been advised to contact the Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000.------------------------------
