A police officer is taken to hospital after an allegedly stolen car crashes into several cars in Wollongong. Officers allege the driver was involved in other police pursuits over the past three days.
A police officer has been taken to hospital after an allegedly stolen vehicle crashed into several cars in Wollongong on Tuesday afternoon.It follows a series of other chases allegedly involving the same car on Sunday and MondayThe allegedly stolen Nissan Navara ute crashed into four cars, including an acting police inspector's marked car, on Elliotts Road at 4:20pm.
He said information suggested the same driver had been behind the wheel of vehicles involved in police pursuits across Wollongong over the past three days."Every time he saw a police car he took off and performed erratic manoeuvres in the car," the officer alleged.Police allege the now-damaged ute has been involved in pursuits over the past three days.
It is understood licence plates were allegedly stolen and changed to the same vehicle across multiple days.Witnesses at the scene said the driver had attempted to run before police deployed tasers and arrested him outside Coles. "All of the incidents will now be drawn together and there will be a number of charges laid on this driver," Sergeant Turner said.Utesav Chaughary was working in the kitchen of Al Amir Restaurant when the crash occurred.
"There were so many sirens. I just saw a little bit of dust flying off the cars from the crash area," he said.Mr Chaughary said he watched a police chase involving several officers and a man wearing a red shirt."There are police cars everywhere. They're inspecting one of the police cars affected and the roads have been blocked."
