A longtime local police officer in western Pa. was arrested by the FBI on Thursday and charged with transporting an illegal immigrant to help the person stay in the United States.

that federal court documents accused Babin of transporting or trying to transport a person “to help them stay in the country illegally.”

The station said the one-count indictment alleges that Babin “knew or recklessly disregarded the fact that the person was in the U.S. against the law.”reported that acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti said Babin assisted the individual sometime between Oct. 20 and Dec. 30, 2022, and also helped the person stay in the country illegally.

Media outlets said the Bethel Park police department refused to comment on Babin’s arrest, calling it a personnel matter. Babin oversees patrol, traffic officers and the dispatch center. On its website, the department says it has 38 full-time officers and responds to about 16,000 calls per year.
