A rally held Tuesday outside of the Greece Police Department headquarters honored National Police Memorial Week.
People rally outside of the Greece Police Department's headquarters on Long Pond Road Tuesday, May 12, 2026 in honor of National Police Memorial Week. Organizers said they picked the location to show gratitude to the two Greece officers who were hurt May 3 in a crash during a pursuit.
The officers were deploying spike strips at the intersection of Mount Read Boulevard and Lexington Avenue when they were struck by a vehicle as a result of a crash between a civilian vehicle, occupied by a 31-year-old woman driver and an infant, and the suspect, Sean Tracy Sr., 56, according to police.
"Thankfully, nobody was killed," said former Gates police chief Jim VanBrederode. "We thought it would be very appropriate to come out here, show some support for Greece police. They're doing a great job in their community, and just rally the police and let them know we're thinking of them during Police Memorial Week.
" One of the officers, a five-year veteran of the department, suffered a concussion and other bumps and bruises, according to Chief Michael Wood. He has been treated and released from the hospital. The other officer, who has served the department for two years, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, including broken bones, Wood said. He remained hospitalized as of May 4.
Wood said both officers are in "incredibly good spirits.
" The young child involved in the original crash was taken to a local hospital and evaluated but did not suffer any injuries, and the woman was hospitalized with several minor injuries but has since been released, police said. Three officers were hospitalized after a man threw bleach at them Tuesday in the Maplewood neighborhood, according to the Rochester Police Department.

A man accused of abducting his mother and two of his siblings Saturday in Perinton has been arrested, according to the Monroe County District Attorney's Office. Agencies from Livingston, Monroe and Genesee counties are battling a third-alarm fire Monday in Caledonia.
