The suspect from a homicide Thursday morning at an Irondequoit home took his own life at Letchworth State Park later in the day, according to police.

Around 5:45 a.m., police responded to a home on Pinegrove Avenue in Irondequoit for the report of a hysterical person claiming there was "blood everywhere." Once there, officers found the body of the victim, John DePonceau, 80, who had an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso.His girlfriend made the 911 call and was able to describe to police the incident and suspect, Andrew Vahey, 24, who lived in a home down the road from the victim, according to Peters.
Police immediately went to that home and set up a perimeter, where they made contact around 7:20 a.m. with the suspect's roommate, who claimed Vahey just texted him saying he just killed his grandfather and was now going to kill himself.That car was found by New York State Park Police at Letchworth State Park, where several agencies responded to assist in a manhunt. The park was shut down and evacuated for the search, according to authorities.
