Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting that they say killed a man in Ogontz Monday afternoon.
Chief Inspector Scott Small says the 22-year-old shooter and the victim got into an argument before guns were drawn and shots were fired.
According to Small, the victim was handing out campaign flyers for the 2023 Philadelphia Mayoral Election. Mayoral candidate Helen Gym later released a statement, expressing her condolences. "I was devastated to hear about the tragic death of a canvasser today. My thoughts are with the family of the victim, the One PA community, and everyone impacted by this irrevocable loss. Though the canvasser was not part of our campaign, this loss is deeply felt by all of us," said Gym.
Preliminary information suggests that the 22-year-old has a permit to carry his gun. Authorities say the shooter remained on scene and cooperated with police. Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department.
