Kuala Lumpur: Police have opened investigation papers into the stabbing by a psychiatric patient of another patient at Selayang Hospital yesterday.
Acting Selangor police chief S Sasikala Devi said a witness saw the 29-year-old victim slumped at the yellow zone of the hospital after the 22-year-old suspect stabbed him in the left hip with a knife at 3.45pm yesterday. “The victim is stable after undergoing surgery. He also suffered injuries to his abdomen and his back from the attack.
She said the reason for the attack is still unknown.Earlier today, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the stabbing incident had nothing to do with overcrowded wards. Noor Hisham said this incident could have happened anywhere as the patient was already experiencing mental health issues. News of the attack came in the wake of reports of overcrowding at public hospitals, and longer waiting periods for those seeking medical help.
