The mayor of Heath pledged a thorough investigation and vowed that “these actions will not be tolerated.”
Authorities are investigating after flags he described as a “hateful display” were found hanging from Rockwall-Heath High School over the weekend, Heath Mayor Jeremiah McClure said Sunday. Heath police were called to the Rockwall ISD school at about 6:40 a.
m. Saturday after “antisemitic materials” were discovered hanging from the school’s east side, police said in a statement. Heath is about 25 miles east of downtown Dallas. “We are committed to working closely with Rockwall ISD to investigate this matter thoroughly and identify those responsible,” McClure said in a statement posted to social media. “Rest assured, these actions will not be tolerated and those accountable will face the consequences of their behavior.” In an email to the school’s staff and families, Rockwall-Heath High School Principal Todd Bradford described the flags as “inappropriate and offensive” and their hanging as a criminal act.“ will work together to identify the responsible parties and hold them accountable for this unacceptable behavior,” Bradford said.Neither police nor the district specified the nature of the flags in their statements. Requests for comment and additional information from the police department were not immediately returned Sunday afternoon. A district spokesperson did not respond to emailed questions, deferring to Bradford’s email. In his statement, McClure said he would “stand with our community in firm opposition to any acts of hatred,” later adding, “We believe in the power of love, unity, and respect for all people, as God calls us to do.”Chase Rogers is a breaking news reporter at The Dallas Morning News.
