Police investigate after small explosion in restroom at Ocean Beach park [Breaking]
Authorities were investigating after a small explosive device known as a “cricket” bomb exploded in a restroom at Dusty Rhodes Park in Ocean Beach on Sunday morning, police said.A man who had been using the restroom called police about 8:45 a.m. to report the explosion at the park on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard near Nimitz Boulevard.During the investigation, the city’s Metro Arson Strike Team and bomb squad found remnants of a small “cricket” bomb in the restroom, San Diego police Lt.
Explosive devices known as “cricket bombs” contain shrapnel that is thrown when the explosive goes off, “so people could be seriously injured,” Gini said. Gini said the man who was in the restroom at the time of the explosion was left with “some ringing in his ears” but was not hit by any shrapnel. The victim told police another man had exited the restroom as he walked in. It wasn’t clear who had placed the bomb, Gini said.
