Multiple 911 calls around 1:54 a.m. Saturday reported a car had driven into a traffic signal pole.
SANTA CLARA — An Oakland woman was killed in a single-car crash early Saturday morning that is being investigated as a DUI, police said.
Dispatchers received multiple 911 calls at 1:54 a.m. Saturday morning regarding a single-car collision at the intersection of Lawrence Expressway and Poinciana Drive. A female passenger was pronounced dead on the scene; she was later identified as My Kin Phan, 40, of Oakland. The driver, 36, and another passenger, 35, were transported to a local hospital with major injuries, police said.
Police determined the vehicle was traveling southbound on Lawrence Expressway before drifting to its right, striking a traffic signal pole on a traffic island at the Poinciana Drive intersection. Police said they had forwarded criminal complaints to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for possible driving under the influence with injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
