Mason Police confirmed they are looking into allegations from 16-year-old female pupil.

On 12/11/19 at 5:02 AM ESTPolice have launched an investigation after a 16-year-old girl claimed she was assaulted by a teacher for wearing a"Women For Trump" pin. Sadie Earegood, a student at Mason High School in Michigan, claimed the teacher forcibly removed the pin from her shirt during school hours on December 5.

."He's talking about the Women for Trump pin and I said, that's fine, you don't have to like it, we can have our opinions." "He grabbed it and I pulled and I tried to push his hand away and he grabbed my shoulder, just kind of put his hand there, and then he started pulling more and more and I just started backing up." The student did not report any injuries. The girl's mother said she filed a police report after hearing about the incident, alleging criminal assault and larceny."He had no right to put his hands on my child over a pin or anything else," Capi Earegood said."The first amendment gives everyone the right to express their freedom of speech. No one should get that upset about someone wearing a political pin." Police later confirmed they have opened an investigation into the alleged assault after also receiving a call about the complaint from school district officials. "The Mason Police Department has been in contact with a parent of the student," Mason Police Chief Don Hanson said in a statement. "Due to a student being involved and the matter being open, no additional details will be released at this time." Superintendent Ronald Drzewicki also confirmed the teacher, who he chose not to identify, has been placed on paid, non-disciplinary leave pending the results of the criminal investigation. The school has also launched an internal investigation into the alleged incident. "Mason Public Schools takes all concerns seriously," Drzewicki said in a statement."We are committed to providing a positive learning environment for our students.According to WILX, the teacher involved is Paul Kato, who teaches media technology at the school. Kato, a Nigerian native who moved to the U.S. when he was 12-years-old, set up the Kato International Training AcademyAlexa Martin, a former Mason High student, said everyone is"outraged" at the allegations surrounding Kato. "That's just the best way I can put it. Everyone is just upset because they feel like there's more to the story than what's being said," Martin said.
