Maurice Howard, 60, was shot and killed Aug. 21 in Oakland, and allegedly exchanged gunfire with his killer.

OAKLAND — Authorities have identified a Newark man who was killed during a shootout with another man late last month.

Maurice Howard, 60, was shot and killed around 5 p.m. Aug. 21, on the 4300 block of Jensen Street in Oakland, authorities said. Thus far, no arrests have been made. Investigators believe that Howard and his killer knew each other, and that the shooting was preceded by some sort of argument or confrontation. According to authorities, both Howard and the man who shot him produced pistols and fired at each other.

Police have not released a description of the suspected shooter, nor revealed the nature of the argument. Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer.
