Police officers would have been “called out” if they were responsible for any criminal acts, a senior cop has told the inquiry into the death of Sheku Bayoh
.
He said: “In 2015, if that had been criminal actions by any officer, they would have been called out and these officers would have been dealt with in a criminal justice process, not sitting in my post incident management suite.” He said: “They have been treated as witnesses in the post incident suite. Therefore this is a process that should be followed in order to secure the evidence that is required for the investigation. That doesn’t mean they are suspects in a criminal inquiry.
