Police are searching for a 14-year-old boy after authorities say he shot and killed a 17-year-old boy in Salt Lake City on Saturday.

At around 8:30 p.m., Salt Lake City police responded to reports of a shooting near 1600 West Ivy Circle, in Rose Park. Once they arrived, they found the 17-year-old with a gunshot wound. The boy was taken to a hospital, where he later died. His name has not been released.Officers searched nearby neighborhoods for the 14-year-old but couldn’t find him, and they are now asking the public for help.Anyone with information about the case should call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 23-30287.

According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, this is the third homicide for Salt Lake City in 2023 so far. Police also responded to a shooting in Poplar Grove on Saturday night, near 1400 W. Pacific Ave., where a man was found with a gunshot wound to the leg that was not life-threatening.
