“It is a great effort, but there is no turning back from it,” Tusk said at a news conference, referring to the defense sector funding. The current proposal would break the previous defense spending record of 159 billion zlotys in the 2024 budget. Poland, which supports Ukraine’s struggle against Russia’s full-scale invasion, is making large purchases of military equipment, including fighters jets, tanks and missile defense systems from the U.S. and South Korea.Tusk says he doesn’t have the votes in parliament to liberalize Poland’s strict abortion lawAbout 4.6 billion zlotys has been earmarked toward the construction of Poland’s first nuclear plant, which is expected to be operational in northern Poland in 2035.
