The announcement of Pokémon Winds & Waves has been a real boost in morale for fans of the franchise, which had felt like it had been listing over the last few releases. Revealed as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations, we got a great look at what the final game is going to be like, without the developer actually being specific about a lot of the detail.
The new starters look great and an adorable re-imagining of the classic typing formula, with some very clear real world influences from the animal kingdom. We also got to see the water-focused world Game Freak has created this time around, and it looks very different from anything we've had to date. Outside of that, we don't know a lot about specifics, but there are a lot of leaks out there that fill in the gaps, including about the included gyms we'll have to conquer along the way. How Many Gyms Will Pokémon Winds & Waves Have? As first reported by Game Rant, Centro Leaks shared a post on Twitter/X, detailing all of the types that players will encounter as they work through the main story and conquer Gyms and their leaders. The format and order is similar to what players have become used to in recent games, with a relatively forgiving Grass-type start.The big revelation is that this would only be the second time that a Dark-type Gym has featured in any of the main games, with Sword and Shield marking that combination's debut into the franchise.As Centro Leaks pointed out in a response to his own tweet, that means that only Dragon, Water, Electric and Bug are missing, which could point to those being the focus of the new Elite Four. Start Planning Your Team Now With all of that info in hand, now is the perfect time to start planning your ideal squad of battling allies. Across the course of your adventure, you'll likely be taking on pretty much everything, so it'll definitely be worth preparing for every eventuality. Pokémon Winds & Waves is set to launch in 2027, with many assuming that means the usual November arrival. Recent rumors suggest it could be here earlier than that though, so once the full Pokédex is revealed, you'll want to waste no time getting to grips with the best combinations.
