First-responders were sent out Wednesday afternoon to the neighborhood near Point Loma High School after a shooting, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Three people were shot, two fatally, when gunfire rang out shortly before 4 p.m. near the intersection of Zola Street and Chatsworth Boulevard, SDPD watch commander Buttle told NBC 7.The shooting took place at a house on Zola Street, about a block from the high school and the Sixth Church of Christ, Scientist. At least a half-dozen patrol cars are on the scene, with police tape blocking Zola from Chatsworth to Poinsettia Drive.
Police told NBC 7 that there was a victim in the backyard of a gray single-family home on Zola, as well as a victim in the front yard. It's not known if it's connected to the killings, but the garage door of the home appears to have been stove in. That damage appears to be fresh, but no vehicle appears to be in the area that may have caused it.Sign up for NBC San Diego's News Headlines newsletter.
NBC 7 asked SDPD officers if the shooter was in custody and was told that they were not looking for the shooter. They did not say whether the shooter has been arrested or had been shot, only that the person responsible is no longer a threat. The last bell at PLHS rings at 3:30 p.m. It's not yet known if any students were involved in the incident.
