THE Philippine National Police has recorded a total of 28 election-related violence since January, its spokesperson Colonel Jean Fajardo said on Thursday, April 21, 2022.
From January 9, the beginning of the implementation of the Commission on Elections gun ban until April 17, Fajardo said five were confirmed to be election-related incidents, 21 were not, and two others are still being validated. She said charges related to the five confirmed ERVs, which were in Ilocos, Central Luzon, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and Cordillera, have already been filed.Disono, along with his bodyguards, figured in a gunfight with police after they refused to stop at a Comelec checkpoint.The PNP filed appropriate charges against Disono and several local government employees, including violation to the prevailing election gun ban, disobedience to authorities and expanded trafficking of persons.
Police said they are still investigating the circumstances of the incident as they have yet to identify the parties involved.Directorate for Operations Major Valeriano de Leon said deployment of security forces has been beefed up in these areas.
