Temperatures in the mid-90s were common locally, as our heat wave hit a fifth day.

Today’s the hottest of the year so far, a title that it will hold until tomorrow. Temperatures in the mid-90s were common locally, with some isolated readings upward of 97 or 98 observed. Since the forecast performed about as expected today, that might be a bad sign for tomorrow. Weather models are in close agreement that 100 is within reach — but as it’s been since 2016, we know conditions need to be just about perfect to get there.

It’s a toasty evening, with temperatures falling back to around 90 near sunset under mainly clear skies. We slowly lose another 12 to 15 degrees in most spots as humidity ticks upward. Lows range across the 70s. Winds blow from the south around five to 10 mph.Get out very early if you have any hope to beat high heat. Temperatures shoot upward with the sun and heat indexes rise near or past 100 by noon, peaking around 105 to 108 in the mid- or late afternoon.

It should still feel like it’s near 100 through at least sunset, with low temperatures near records in the mid-70s to around 80.More clouds than Saturday, especially in the afternoon, although it’s unclear whether it will help much with temperatures. Readings are mostly in a range of mid-90s to around 100. Heat indexes also strive for 105 or so. A better chance of scattered showers and storms may arrive late in the day and last into the night.
