Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has defended his Home Affairs and Immigration Ministers, Clare O’Neil and Andrew Giles, after a horrifically violent alleged home invasion involving an immigration detainee.
The Prime Minister has stood by Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil and Immigration Minister Andrew Giles after an immigration detainee was charged over a violent home invasion in Perth.
“They will be continuing in their roles… It’s another day, another bit of negativity from Peter Dutton,” Mr Albanese said in response. Since the high-profile legal case, a cohort of individuals – which includes murderers, drug offenders and people smugglers – has been freed as it was determined they couldn’t be indefinitely held in detention without prospect of deportation. The Coalition has questioned the competency of Ms O’Neil and Mr Giles as the government struggles to secure emergency powers to manage the immigration detainees.
“When will Clare O’Neil and Andrew Giles front-up and take responsibility for this unholy mess? And if they won’t, when will the Prime Minister finally show some leadership and sack both ministers?”Mr Dutton has blamed the Immigration Minister for failing to keep Australians safe and cited a lack of accurate monitoring of detainees.
