Australia’s political leaders have paid respects to the victims of the October 7 terrorist attacks, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton both issuing statements on the one-year anniversary of the tragedy.

“Together today, we pay our respects to the memories of the 1,200 innocent people murdered on October 7. We pray for the hostages still held by Hamas and we grieve for the families who have lost those dearest to them” the Opposition Leader began. Mr Dutton then spoke about Israel’s right to defend itself and implied, unlike the Coalition, the Albanese government treats the world’s only Jewish state “like an adversary”.“The Coalition stands with our ally Israel – rather than treating her like an adversary.The Opposition Leader also spoke about how that “day of depravity” had led to “one of the most difficult periods for Jewish Australians in our nation’s history.
