Shadow immigration minister Dan Tehan has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese over the government's processes in granting visas to Palestinians fleeing Gaza .Australia had accepted more Palestinian arrivalsThe new figures, collated by the opposition, show Labor has granted 2,922 Gaza n visa applications since Hamas' terror attack on Israel on October 7 in stark contrast to our closest allies.
"That’s us asking those questions on behalf of the Australian people to the Prime Minister," Mr Tehan said. Out of those 7,111 rejected visas, 43 were cancelled and 20 were reinstated following an appeals process, The Australian reports. Mr Tehan was grilled on why the Coalition took more than nine months to put the visa issue at the centre of its attacks on the government.
"The proper processes were followed. We used third countries… for those visas when it was necessary to do so, that is what we used," Mr Tehan said. "We have rejected more than 7,000 visa applications. Fewer than 1,300 people are here," Mr Albanese responded.
