Pleasure Beach's rollercoaster geniuses who 'people think do nothing in winter'
"Some people think we don't do anything in the winter," laughs Blackpool Pleasure Beach engineer Darren Evans.
On top of improvements to the cars, there's teams of highly skilled workers re-painting, cleaning, re-laying tracks and replacing parts on coasters, ahead of the 2023 season, which launches in march. All rides will get stripped each winter and given the same treatment as The Big One, while one train will be saved for the summer months. It is a vital process to the safe operation of the coastal park, with any crack, worn or paint-chipped part removed and replaced. Through the season, the engineers will be on hand to fix any faults or make any necessary improvement to rides.
