Montgomery, Alabama
Thursday looks like another pleasant mid-May day across central and south Alabama. The sky remains partly to mostly sunny during the afternoon, with highs in the mid to upper 80s. That’s seasonable for this time of year. Clouds increase Thursday night, with lows in the upper 60s. Rain and even storms may move back into at least part of our area Friday morning. Multiple rounds of storms appear possible during the day into Friday night.
Some storms may become strong to severe Friday. The storm prediction center places a slight severe risk across southwest Alabama Friday and Friday night. The slight severe risk was expanded further east from Thursday’s outlook. Damaging winds up to 60 mph and large hail look like the primary severe hazards. However, a few tornadoes appear possible.
The main severe weather window should be during the afternoon and evening, between 2 and 11PM. Rain and storms around during the morning may remain sub-severe. Outside of any severe hazards, heavy rain may lead to localized flooding through Saturday morning. Area rain amounts of 2-4″ appear possible, especially south of highway 80 and Interstate 85.
Rain and storms continue into Saturday morning. Additional storms may form Saturday afternoon, and persist into Saturday evening. However, rain departs by Sunday morning. Sunday may become abundant during the afternoon. High temperatures range from the mid to upper 80s. Next week begins mainly dry, with low chances for rain Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures remain warm, with highs in the upper 80s.
