The PlayStation Plus is superimposed over a lilac background.

PlayStation Plus has been a compelling offering for those who main either of Sony's flagship consoles for some time, with players able to score a ton of value via the monthly free games offerings and access to the ever-growing catalog of titles available to subscribers.

That said, it doesn't come cheap, particularly at the higher tiers, and it's at a semi-reasonable limit where it doesn't feel exploitative whilst, at the same time, creating reasonable value for Sony to be incentivized to continue offering it. If the price were to go up, it would certainly come as a massive disappointment to many, particularly given rising costs elsewhere in the games industry, and there is a world where that could happen sooner than any of us would like. Is PlayStation Planning Another PS Plus Price Increase? Over on Reddit, one user shared an advertisement from PlayStation, in which they bill PlayStation Plus as a service that's available from $14.99 per month. The obvious flaw in that is that it's currently available from $9.99 per month, at the Essentials tier, with $14.99 the current price for the Extra tier, which is where you really start unlocking access to almost all of the monthly free games. That could mean that Sony is planning to raise the base price of their subscription service by $5, which would almost certainly go down poorly with the PlayStation's considerable player community. Equally, it could be that Sony is just more keen to draw attention to the Extra and Premium tiers, where they stand to make more money. The idea of a price increase was very unpopular with the responses, with many already feeling as though they're pushing personal finances to the limit to subscribe. "The prices are ridiculous. In Australia for 12 months deluxe it’s $214.95 AUD, and we don’t even get cloud streaming," one comment read. "A lad at work swears by the game rental service he uses. I'm already 50/50 on buying a disc drive to do it so if they do this nonsense I'll cancel right away and just find a F2P game," another added. "It's the second year in a row that i get my yearly sub on February during the offers and premium has the same exact cost as Extra..so they must be plotting something," a third said. PlayStation Plus Subscribers Should Know Nothing Has Been Confirmed All of that in mind, it's important to remember that there has been no official confirmation from Sony that price rises are on the way, and PlayStation Plus prices start at $9.99 at the time of writing. Let's hope that continues in the long term, lest our wallets end up empty once again.
