“There’s really nothing like it,” Stars president and CEO Brad Alberts said. “We couldn’t do that two years ago when we were in the bubble, which obviously made that whole run just more bizarre because nobody can watch it live. To be able to get that feeling and that vibe back in our building is really cool for the popularity of the sport and our team.”The most immediate is that the Stars have a chance to take control of the series with the favored Flames.
“I’ve always loved the people of Dallas, and when they show up at the rink, it’s been awesome,” Pavelski said. “It’s only going to get better, I would assume.”Financially, the Stars missed out on approximately $30 million in 2020, when the team advanced to the Cup Final. They would have had 11 home games during the run , and each playoff game is worth an estimated $2 million to the team, not accounting for additional non-gate-related revenue.
Hockey in Dallas also gets a boost on the main stage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Stars were seventh in the league in attendance this season , but nonetheless fall lower in the Dallas sports pecking order. “When you don’t have that playoff environment to really capture new fans, it’s hard to sell down the road and in the future,” Alberts said. “This is great for our selling next year, in addition to the short-term revenue upside that we get.”
