The not-for-profit performing arts center said in a news release that Hassall, 57, has held senior management roles at some of the world’s most recognizable venues, events and organizations, including his most recent position as chief executive at the venerablePlayhouse Square is the second largest performing arts center in the United States with 11 performance spaces.
“Playhouse Square is a dynamic, visionary organization with a great history of accomplishment and leadership in the performing arts industry,” Hassall said in a release. “It’s poised to play an even bigger role and I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to partner with the Board of Trustees and this talented staff to take Playhouse Square to the next level.”
Hassall also held the chief executive position at Opera Australia and was managing director of the English National Ballet. He held senior artistic roles for major large-scale projects, including the 2000 and 2012 Olympic Games in Sydney and London, respectively. Hassall, 57, plans to relocate to the Cleveland area to join Playhouse Square in early 2023 after completing the London Christmas season.
