The 49ers believe Jed York will invest in some bigger tubs and pools.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers addresses the team in the locker room before a playoff game against the Cowboys at Levi's Stadium on Jan. 22, 2023, in Santa Clara, Calif. The NFL Players Association released fascinating report cards for all 32 teams Wednesday. Intended to aid players' decisions ahead of free agency, all 32 NFL teams were graded based on responses from players on those respective teams.
The report noted that the Niners' anonymous respondents were"positive in all but one section: the training room, a crucial area for players to rehab and recover." Specifically, the amount of room available for players both in the training room and in the areas where they submerge themselves. "The tubs and rehab pool are viewed as small and there are a lack of tables and space in the training room itself," the report reads.
Players expressed confidence that owner Jed York was willing to spend on upgrades, another category where the 49ers ranked in the top 10. According to the report card,"There is a belief that investment will be made to ensure these areas are upgraded to meet the high standards set by the rest of the facilities."
Though the team has been ravaged by injuries in recent years, the players didn't rip the staff's handling of them. The training staff graded out at A-minus., have"the worst-ranked weight room, which some players feel is a safety hazard; an outdated training room and locker room; and a policy of deducting dinner from players’ paychecks should players want to get food from the facility.
