Two Alabama High School Athletic Association flag football champions have been crowned, the first since the organization officially sanctioned the sport, with Central-Phenix City winning a second straight title in Class 6A/7A and Montgomery Catholic claiming the 1A/5A championship.
The senior quarterback was 14-for-29 passing for 164 yards and a touchdown in the Blue Devils’ loss to Montgomery Catholic. Kile, who also plays softball – where the Devils finished second in the state tournament – and basketball, led the Moody defense with 4 tackles, 2 interceptions and a pass breakup.
Montgomery Catholic senior Jamie McGuire was second in the balloting with 12 percent of the vote. She finished with 9 flag pulls, 6 for a loss, and 4 sacks in the 1A/5A title game as the Knights beat Moody 14-7. Central-Phenix City senior quarterback Gerritt Griggs – another softball and basketball player – was third in the voting with 6 percent. She hit 14-of-19 throws for 253 yards and 6 touchdowns for the Red Devils in the 55-7 win over Spain Park.Auburn signees will be in spotlight for Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game
