A player from the Aberglasslyn Ants rugby league club collapsed and died during a pre-season training session. The club and the NSW Rugby League express their condolences and provide support to the player's family and community.
The Aberglasslyn Ants rugby league club has been rocked by the death of another player less than 12 months after tragedy hit during a game. The suburban club was conducting a pre-season training session at its home ground near Maitland on Tuesday night when a 31-year-old player collapsed. He was rushed to hospital but died in the ambulance.
“The NSWRL expresses its deepest sympathy to the family of an Aberglasslyn Ants player who sadly passed away in Maitland Hospital on Tuesday night after collapsing at training at McKeachies Oval,” a NSW Rugby League spokesperson said on Wednesday. “The NSWRL is concentrating its efforts to provide full support for his family, teammates, club, and the local rugby league community. “We ask that the media respect the family’s privacy during this incredibly traumatic time. “There are a lot of important processes that need to be followed by authorities including police who may be required to prepare a report for the coroner.” Police rushed to the football ground at 5.30pm after they were informed a man had collapse
