The plaque -- which is dedicated to Officer Charles Knox, who was killed in the line of duty in 1992 -- was reported missing on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

The Fraternal Order of Police and management at the nearby Walgreens store confirmed that no permission was granted for the plaque's removal, police said.Police said photographs of the site showed a significant amount of dirt and debris, suggesting the plaque may have been missing for an extended period.
"The Philadelphia Police Department is committed to preserving the memory of our fallen officers," Police Commissioner Kevin J. Bethel said in a news release."We are taking this matter very seriously and are asking anyone with information to please come forward."
