Plans have been unveiled for a billion-dollar park that will be home to the world’s tallest flagpole.

project, which will be built in Columbia Falls, which is in Downeast Maine.

The plans feature the park that will fly the world’s largest flag that will be bigger than a football field, from the world’s tallest flagpole that will be taller than the Empire State Building. Organizers say it would be the only place in the country to honor all 24 million American veterans in one location and will feature remembrance walls.“The great thing about this is it’s not funded by the government. It’s going to be privately funded. And we can’t really give it the title of a national park, but it will have almost more meaning than a national park,” Mike Worcester said.

Those behind it say the park would generate about 8,000 year-round jobs and $27 million in tax revenue each year, as well as plans in place for restaurants, shops, museums, and a hotel at the park. Building the pole will be a tall order because in addition to any environmental and technical concerns, about $1 billion still needs to be raised to pull this off but they hope to break ground in the next year and open on July 4, 2026, on America’s 250th birthday.
