Shannah and Kelly Hayley aren’t slowing down any time soon. The couple completed their last half marathon and marathon, respectively, in Baltimore in their goal to run one in all 50 states before their 55th birthday.
In the midst of the challenge, the pandemic also upended their lives. Races around the world were canceled, which meant they wouldn’t finish their goal by their 50th birthdays, their original goal. The group likes to have fun, but they also mean business. They’ve had runners qualify for the Boston Marathon, a competitive national race.
They were interested in each other but not yet dating, and Kelly told his boss, “I’ve met the girl that I think I’m going to marry.” The boss misinterpreted the statement and announced the two were engaged at a staff meeting. They had known each other for just a couple of weeks.
