Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' villain Proximus Caesar is breaking Caesar's biggest rule hundreds of years later. The fourth entry in the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise picks up the story 300 years after War for the Planet of the Apes' ending.
Caesar's death in the previous installment left a major hole in the ape society, and the need for a new leader is where Proximus Caesar enters the picture for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. While Noa is the main heroic ape, Proximus is the current leader of the ape kingdom that Caesar created. Despite how much time has passed since Caesar's death, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' story takes place at a point where his legacy is still very much felt. This can be seen with the symbol from Caesar's home still being used by the ape society to the group's new leader picking up the Caesar name. Following in Caesar's shoes is no easy task based on what he managed to accomplish for all apes. There have already been signs of how Proximus is following or bending some of Caesar's laws, but he's also confirmed to break them in Kingdom. Related Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes' New Caesar Confirms The True Impact Of War's Ending One of the most intriguing parts of the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is how Caesar's legacy has persisted over the centuries. Proximus Caesar Breaks Caesar's "Ape Not Kill Ape" Rule In Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Caesar Did Want Apes Killing Each Other Now, it is known that Proximus Caesar will break Caesar's biggest rule in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the law that states, "Ape Not Kill Ape." Extended footage from the movie played at CinemaCon and revealed new details about the story. The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes CinemaCon footage includes an attack on Noa's village done under Proximus Caesar's command and part of the fight results in the death of an ape. It is in this moment that Proximus Caesar knowingly breaks the rule that apes do not kill other apes. "Ape Not Kill Ape" is one of three rules that Caesar established in the previous Planet of the Apes trilogy. "Apes Together Strong" and "Knowledge Is Power" were the two other laws Caesar made integral parts of ape culture. While even Caesar bent his ape killing rule in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' ending, the killings that happen in Kingdom are different. He not only orders an attack on an ape village under his command, but the apes that work for him are certainly only willing to kill other apes because Proximus has made it allowed. Proximus Caesar Killing Apes Proves He Doesn't Understand His Caesar Title Proximus Is Very Different Than Caesar Close The implication that Proximus Caesar and his ape army willingly kill apes in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes proves that he is not a new Caesar. The differences between the two characters were already quite apparent, ranging from the tyrannical nature of Proximus' ruling to his hatred for humans. However, Proximus is also closely adhering to Caesar's "Knowledge Is Power" law and does seem to believe that apes are stronger together than apart or with humans. Proximus has clearly accepted his place as the "new Caesar" in the ape society in terms of being the leader. What he seems to have missed is exactly what Caesar stood for at his core. The 300 years that separate the end of Caesar's reign and where Proximus' is during Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes could contribute to the issue somewhat. The franchise's new villain might not fully know Caesar's story after so much time. But, that doesn't make his actions and killing apes any less horrendous given everything Caesar stood for.Director Wes Ball Release Date May 10, 2024 Writers Patrick Aison , Josh Friedman , Rick Jaffa , Amanda Silver Cast Kevin Durand , Freya Allan , Peter Macon , Owen Teague , Eka Darville , Sara Wiseman , Neil Sandilands
