John Candy's inspiring sing-a-long from 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' was cut out of the original movie for time—but 35 years later, the deleted scene still holds up:

This deleted scene from the 1987 John Hughes film is grainy, fuzzy, and more than a little battered after 35 years, but it's a perfect little short story in and of itself.

At one point in the editing process, the movie was running over four hours long, so cuts had to be made. In anpresident of worldwide home media at Paramount Pictures, tells“Unfortunately, in that era when the film was made, it was really commonplace within the industry to discard all the trims and outs—which is so unfortunate, but it was just the common practice, which is not true today.”

This scene is among the VHS tapes unearthed at the Hughes estate. “He always kept the duplicate copies of the movies as they were being edited,” one of Hughes' children,You don't need to know the full story to enjoy it, but here's the context: Martin is Neal Page, an uptight ad exec trying to make it home to Chicago in time for Thanksgiving dinner, and Candy is Del Griffith, a garrulous shower-curtain ring salesman on a parallel journey.
