The plane’s pilot and two passengers weren’t injured.

A pilot and two passengers are safe after making an emergency landing in a Valencia watermelon field when the aircraft’s engine failed. A small plane traveling from Santa Paula to Pacoima made an emergency landing Sunday in a Valencia watermelon field after experiencing engine failure.

Authorities were called just before 5:10 p.m. to a field near the 5 Freeway and Six Flags Magic Mountain, where a single-engine plane made an emergency landing after experiencing engine failure, said Deputy Miesha McClendon with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The plane landed safely, and its pilot and two passengers, including a child, escaped with no reports of injuries, McClendon said.Pilot Anastasia Vournas noticed the plane’s engine sputtering and losing power before it gave out, she told independent video news agency Key News Network. At that point, Vournas knew the flight wouldn’t make it to its intended destination of Whiteman Airport in Pacoima, so she searched for a spot to make an emergency landing and brought the plane down in a watermelon field. “When you’re flying a plane you always have to think, ‘if I lose an engine, where am I going to put this airplane down?’ and that’s what I did,” she said. “I said ‘tighten up your belts. We’re going to be landing here.’” The emergency landing was smooth, other than some bumps once the aircraft hit the watermelons, Vournas said.Delta agrees to $78.8 million settlement for 2020 fuel dump over LASouthwest flight out of Burbank forced to dive to avoid collision, injuring flight attendantsMargaritas, Mexican food and more at this Sherman Oaks restaurantBishop Amat football edges Valencia in thriller Gabriel Fernandez, 8, was tortured to death.
