Police and firefighters are on scene after a plane crashed through a fence at Wheeling’s Chicago Executive Airport. The plane crashed through a fence on the north end of the airport Wednesday, coming just inches from a roadway near the scene.
According to the FAA, the plane had departed from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on Wednesday, and ran through the end of the runway on its arrival in Wheeling. Two individuals were onboard, according to the FAA, which has opened an investigation into the crash.Wheeling: a plane has crashed through the fence on to Hintz Rd on the north end of Chicago Executive Airport. Departure and landing delays.Aircraft are not being allowed to take off or land at the airport due to the crash, including NBC's Sky 5 helicopter, according to Lorber's reporting.According to Total Traffic, eastbound Hintz Road remains closed between South Wolf Road and South Milwaukee Avenue as emergency personnel investigate the crash and secure the scene.
