The Albanese government's repeated targeting of our agricultural industries could have alarming implications for the national economy, writes Nicolle Flint.
It seems Labor are out to get our 88,000 food and fibre farmers and their families in any way they can.
The recently released Department of Agriculture’s Expert Panel Interim Report on the impending ban could not be more clear about the devastating impact it will wreak on regional businesses.Notably, the Western Australian Labor government is opposed to banning live sheep exports as well. There is no doubt that ending live sheep exports represents just the start of Labor’s assault on farmers. If they end live sheep exports it can only be a matter of time before they end cattle, buffalo and goat live exports, too.
Despite this, Labor is attempting to legislate further burdens on the industry by adding ‘Animal Welfare’ to the Inspector-General’s role through the Inspector-General of Live Animal Exports Amendment Bill 2023 which has passed the House of Representatives and is currently before a Senate Committee, allowing only 11 days for submissions, and only one day of hearings, before its report on August 30.
