A Tennessee pizzeria has ignited controversy after refusing to cater a same-sex wedding, sparking both support and condemnation from customers. The restaurant defended its stance citing personal beliefs, while others criticized the decision as discriminatory.

A pizzeria in Red Bank, Tennessee that announced on social media it would not cater gay weddings had some of its customers fired up, but others saying they should be rewarded with more business.

It all started with a post earlier this week sharing what it claimed was a screenshot of a text from the Pizzeria Cortile on Dayton Boulevard, responding to a question, 'I'm curious if you guys can confirm or deny that you refused to cater a same sex wedding?'\'Thank you for reaching out for clarification, we do not cater same sex weddings.'\Recently, we made the difficult decision not to cater a wedding due to our personal beliefs. However, others said they supported the restaurant's stance, and said they would be giving the business more business in the coming days. In North Chattanooga, Pizzeria Cortile has a part-time food truck on the property of the Book and Cover bookstore on Hanover Street. That business posted its own response to the controversy on its Facebook page, saying they were severing their ties with the restaurant: This stance is not in keeping with our values as individuals or as a business. It is vitally important to us that it is clear we treasure and respect the queer members of our community and celebrate the rights and love that they carry
