Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Troy Fautanu blocks during an NFL football game, Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, in Pittsburgh.
So, Fautanu played 55 of the Steelers’ 66 offensive snaps on Sunday in his first career start against the Denver Broncos. The 20th overall pick out of Washington into the 2024 NFL Draft, Steelers general manager Omar Khan said they were on ‘pins and needles’ waiting for Fautanu to fall to 20th overall.
“Sometimes, my own worst enemy is right here,” Fautanu said, pointing to his head. “Out there, I was overthinking and playing too slow.” After that play, Fautanu settled down and took in the wave of emotions. Fautanu’s lifelong dream of playing in an NFL game came true.
