DeShon Elliott was back on the practice field on Wednesday.
The injury occurred on a run to the outside when Elliott was outside the pile of players. As he started to make the tackle, his left knee bent awkwardly. He stayed down before limping off the field and having his helmet taken In his place, the Steelers have started Chuck Clark, but Pittsburgh has noted they will ramp up safety Jabrill Peppers moving forward.
Peppers is likely to have a bigger role this week, and could eventually take over the starter role even when Elliott ends up returning to the football field. Elliott will be a starter no matter what, but Peppers has put himself on the map as someone that should be consisted for a larger role next to him, even if their skillsets might clash with one another. Elliott’s return would give the Steelers another key communication hub and someone the team could look to as a steady hand.
