Just days after Damar Hamlin's frightening cardiac arrest on Monday Night Football, another athlete with ties to Pittsburgh, Filip Hallander, suffered a scary injury Friday night.
‘What more can we do?’: Coaches, Peyton Walker Foundation talk local impact of Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest
Wilkes/Barre cancelled its postgame media availability, and said on Twitter that it would provide updates on Hallander’s condition when they are available. The 22-year-old is considered to be one of the Penguins top prospects, according to reports, and has played in two games with Pittsburgh this season.
Understandably for many, seeing Hallander hit the ice motionless just days after Hamlin’s near tragedy, was a bit much. Particularly considering the Pittsburgh-area connection — Hamlin played his high school ball at Pittsburgh Central Catholic and Pitt — and fans took to social media to vent and send well-wishes to the young hockey player.
“Oh my. It’s not been a good week for Pittsburgh injury-wise w/native son Damar Hamlin and now Penguin farm hand Filip Hallander,”“My thoughts are with Filip Hallander fo the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins,”
