The company also plans to expand its core book business, with distribution help from Penguin Random House, to new genres like graphic novels and fiction that appeal beyond its core audience of 6- to 12-year-olds. Its first prescriptive nonfiction title is set to come out in May,"Growing Up Powerful," aimed at girls 8-14. It's in the process of hiring a chief content officer to manage its sprawling storytelling initiatives.
"We're IP at the core," she said."There's many opportunities to do companion content that complements what we're doing."Rebel Girls is a certified B Corp that started in 2016 with a crowd-funded book series and has gone on to raise $21 million.Founders Francesca Cavallo and Elena Favilli raised more than $1.2 million in a combined Kickstarter and Indiegogo InDemand book ordering campaign for their first book,"Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls.
