Will Turner actor Orlando Bloom gives thoughtful consideration to a potential Pirates of the Caribbean return, offering his ideas for the character.
Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom suggests he would like the opportunity to reprise his role as the swashbuckling blacksmith-turned-pirate Will Turner. Spanning a total of five films that have earned over $4.5 billion in worldwide box office, Bloom’s character has appeared in all but one of the Pirates of the Caribbean outings: 2011’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY When speaking with Parade, Bloom is asked if he would like to reprise any of his old roles, and he ends up addressing a potential Pirates of the Caribbean 6 return. Bloom says he would love to revisit Will Turner because “it'd be interesting to see how he surfaces” after having spent so long on the bottom of the ocean as the Flying Dutchman’s captain.
Oh gosh, you know, I did get to go back and play Legolas in The Hobbit, which was 10 years later. I was like, "This is a lot of fun!" Because he's such a great space to be in, and I think Will [Turner from Pirates of the Caribbean]—I mean Will's so great.
According to franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer, however, both projects are still very much in active development, and each of them could benefit from Bloom’s involvement. With question marks now hanging over Depp's return as Jack Sparrow, Bloom’s Will Turner could potentially serve as the new connective tissue between any future installments and the films which came before them.
Given that the Pirates of the Caribbean films have all delved heavily into supernatural elements, there is probably no better-placed character to include than the former captain of the Flying Dutchman. Responsible for ferrying the souls of drowned sailors to the afterlife, Will Turner could prove himself an invaluable source of information for a whole new generation of pirates.
