PIP claimants warned DWP could stop payments to anyone who is admitted to hospital

Anyone who is in receipt of Personal Independence Payment that is paid by the Department for Work and Pensions could see it stopped if they go into hospital.

These people with a medical condition or disability can find themselves admitted to hospital from time to time. But rules state that anyone who is admitted to hospital, or similar, for more than 28 days will see their PIP suspended, reports the Express. These payments will be stopped until the person is discharged. However, there are some exceptions to the rules for anyone under 18 or is paying privately for their stay.

If someone goes into hospital for 20 days and then 10 days later they have to return to the hospital for care this will class as 30 days. This will mean the PIP payments will cease for the individual. The Government department guidance says people must tell the DWP “as soon as possible” if they have a hospital stay. This will include a one-night stay or a longer stay in hospital, a one-night or longer stay in a care home or rehabilitation centre, and if someone misses a Jobcentre Plus appointment because you’re in hospital or have a medical appointment
