Pinewood breaks it open in second and third quarters of NorCal Division I playoff opener at Acalanes.

LAFAYETTE — It’s entirely possible Pinewood High will be better next year. Same goes for Acalanes.

Each team concentrated its scoring, with only four players scoring for the Panthers and five for the Dons. The Dons came out firing in the first quarter, hitting five of their eventual 11 3-point shots and taking a 20-7 lead. Acalanes was doing its thing, pressing, trapping and making life miserable for anyone in possession of the ball.

Pinewood outscored Acalanes 20-8 in the second quarter and went into the half trailing 28-27, and then a 17-1 run to open the third quarter proved too much for Acalanes to conquer.
